Cannabinoid Receptor Interacting Protein 1 (CNRIP1)
Cannabinoid Receptor Interacting Protein 1 is a G-protein coupled receptor which interacts with the C-terminal tail of cannabinoid receptor 1. This receptor plays a role in synaptic plasticity, analgesia, appetite, and neuroprotection. Two transcript variants encoding different isoforms have been described for this gene.
The cannabinoid receptors are a class of cell membrane receptors under the G protein-coupled receptor superfamily. Cannabinoid receptors are activated by three major group of ligands, endocannabinoids (produced by the mammalian body), plant cannabinoids (such as THC, produced by the cannabis plant) and synthetic cannabinoids (such as HU-210). All of the endocannabinoids and plant cannabinoids are lipophilic, i.e. fat soluble, compounds.
